The MediaTek Dimensity 8400 redefines premium smartphones by introducing the concept of an All Big Core CPU design to this segment. As a top mobile processor featuring eight Arm Cortex-A725 cores, it delivers an impressive performance boost of up to 41% in multi-core performance compared to the previous generation. At the same time, it achieves 44% lower peak power consumption, making it the most energy-efficient processor in its class. This is made possible through 4nm manufacturing technology and significantly larger in-chip caches, ensuring that essential data is more readily accessible to the CPU.

This gaming mobile processor features a 7-core graphics engine based on the latest Mali-G720 GPU core, which includes hardware ray tracing capabilities. MediaTek’s own enhancements, including the MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) and third-generation Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT 3.0), further boost performance and power efficiency. To ensure seamless connectivity, the Network Observation System (NOS) enables precise 5G and Wi-Fi switching, optimizing network performance and improving wireless energy efficiency.

Ready for advanced generative AI and emerging agentic AI, the in-chip NPU supports MediaTek’s Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE), which is designed to advance traditional AI applications into more sophisticated agentic AI experiences. The NPU 880 offers 20% faster operations and 18% greater power efficiency compared to the previous generation. For popular generative AI tasks it performs even better, delivering a 33% improvement in text generation and 21% faster results in Stable Diffusion image generation. All of this is achieved without relying on cloud-based AI services, enabling secure, personalized, and always-available functionality.

5G capabilities have been upgraded to support up to 3CC-CA, reaching download speeds of up to 5.17 Gbps, while MediaTek UltraSave 3.0+ introduces a range of advanced power-efficiency optimizations that work in everyday scenarios.

For photography enthusiasts, upcoming smartphone designs will feature supersized camera sensors and in-sensor zoom with 100% PDAF coverage. This repurposes the sensor to improve sensitivity and clarity during digital zoom. Alternatively, manufacturers designing multi-camera systems can support simultaneous video capture using three 32MP sensors at 30 FPS, enabling multiple angles and zoom levels in a single shot. The chip also supports HDR video recording across the entire zoom range, maintaining consistent quality during sensor transitions.
