MediaTek & Nokia achieve 5G 3CC Carrier Aggregation First

Following MediaTek and Keysight's successful 5G 3CC-CA test in September using an emulated 5G Standalone network environment, MediaTek and Nokia have now announced another successful 3CC-CA test. This test was conducted in a controlled environment using Nokia's latest AirScale equipment and a device featuring the MediaTek M80 modem.

This world-first achievement reached a peak downlink throughput of 3.2Gbps by combining 210MHz of spectrum, utilizing 20MHz of n71 (600MHz FDD) and 190MHz of n41 (2.6GHz TDD).

The test demonstrates that 5G service providers will be able to deliver higher throughput and capacity to their customers in typical use cases that combine FDD and TDD spectrum. This further enhances the value of sub-6GHz (FR1) global deployments, particularly in regions with fragmented spectrum allocations.

“This test demonstrates the importance of carrier aggregation in enabling mobile operators around the world to deliver best-in-class speed and capacity to their subscribers. The combination of Nokia’s AirScale portfolio and our technology boosts the possibilities of spectrum assets and 5G networks. We look forward to continuing to partner with Nokia to advance the 5G ecosystem,” said JS Pan, General Manager, Wireless Communication System, and Partnerships at ĢƵ
