In , over three-quarters of smartphone buyers registered interest in on-device generative AI tools specifically, with a broad vote on tools that interested them, including email and message composition, note-taking, photo/video enhancement, live translation, and content generation.
Most respondents expect a hybrid approach of cloud and on-device processing to be the future, which acknowledges the respective benefits of both domains – the sheer capacity of the cloud, and the privacy, security, availability, and responsiveness of on-device processing.
The report does, however, raise consumer concerns about Gen-AI's cost, privacy, and responsiveness. This is being addressed in our philosophy of democratizing technologies, with the aim to eventually make highly capable NPUs broadly available in devices, enabling everyone to benefit.
At MWC 2025, we’ve also proposed in a local domain, with our 5G CPE Gen-AI Gateway that includes a powerful NPU. This brings together the performance and capacity of several devices in a virtualized private environment with carrier-grade security, extracting the extra computing power of home or office devices without requiring cloud-based services.
